What We Collect
Been & Bound stores the account details needed to run the service, including your email address, display name, username, authentication provider links, and password hash when you choose password login. We also store atlas entries, journeys, places, bookmarks, votes, profile settings, Travel DNA preferences, and milestone progress that you create or interact with.
How We Use It
We use your data to authenticate you, keep your private atlas private, publish only the items you choose to share, rank community contributions, protect the service from abuse, and send transactional account emails such as verification and password reset messages.
Public Sharing
Atlases, journeys, profile details, votes, and recommendations are public only when the related feature or record is marked public. Private atlas entries, private journeys, and account settings are not intentionally shown on public pages.
Service Providers
Been & Bound uses infrastructure providers for hosting, database storage, authentication, rate limiting when configured, transactional email, and place search. When you explicitly search for a Journey place, Geoapify receives the search text and any country or coordinate bias you provide. We do not send Journey notes, recommendation text, Travel DNA, your identity, or your email with that search. Journey maps load map styles and tiles from OpenFreeMap. OpenFreeMap and its delivery network receive normal web-request information and tile identifiers that reveal the area displayed on the map, but we do not upload your saved place names, notes, visibility, account identity, or email as a map dataset. OAuth login only requests the identity information needed to create and secure your account.
Your Controls
You can update profile and travel settings from your account. You can request deletion from the account settings screen or follow the instructions on the data deletion page.
